Form, Meet Function
Calf ropers of the early 20th century weren't too satisfied with the tall heels of cowboy-style boots. They wanted something they could run in. And so the roper was born.
With a shorter heel, shorter shaft, and subdued silhouette, the roper is the cowboy boot's quieter cousin. Still built Chisos tough, the flatter footing of the roper is arguably a harder worker.
Personally, we rotate between 'em both.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
The Best Customer Service I Have Ever Experienced. I have not worn any cowboy boots in years. I decided to purchase two pairs of the Chisos No. 6 boots this year. One pair is brown and one pair is black. I first purchased the brown boots. I normally wear a size 13 in all types of shoes and boots, but when I tried on the size 13 boots, I noticed they were a little tight and that I had difficulty putting them on each time. In short, I struggled to get my foot in the boots. I figured that it would take some breaking in to stretch out the leather. About a month later, I purchased the black pair. The black pair of boots was tighter than the first pair. I encountered difficulty putting them on each time I attempted to insert my foot into the boot. I pulled so hard on the pull tab that I broke it while trying to get my boot on. I decided to send them back to Chisos to see if they could fix the pull tab. I sent the boots back to Chisos with a long letter explaining my problem with the boots and asking if they could repair them for me. The owner called me back and discussed the problem that I was having with the boots. He suggested stepping up to a size 14 instead of the size 13 boot. He sent me a brand new replacement pair of the size 14 boot without asking for any additional money or giving me any problems. I was amazed that this type of customer service was still in existence today. When I tried on the size 14 boots, it was an instant and very comfortable fit. I was beyond ecstatic, and the boots have been perfect with each wear since I have received them. I then faced a dilemma about what to do with my brown pair, as I had become accustomed to the comfort and perfect fit of the size 14 boot. I was able to sell this gently worn pair of boots to a co-worker who normally wears a size 12-12.5 shoe. He knew of the Chisos name and was actually looking to purchase a No. 2 style for himself. I sold him my brown No. 6 for a very marked-down price, and now we both have an amazing pair of No. 6 boots. I work in a very busy emergency department in Houston, and I have shown off my boots and praised the Chisos brand to anyone who asks about them. I commend the customer service of the owner(s) of this small company out of Austin, Texas. Please consider purchasing the Chisos brand of boots before you go to any of the "big box" competitors. I cannot wait to purchase and replace my brown No. 6 boots with a size 14. Please strongly consider stepping up a size when purchasing your pair of Chisos boots. I would have never guessed that I would be a size 14 in the Chisos brand of boots, but stepping up a size was perfect, and this customer could not be more ecstatic with his purchase. Thank you, Chisos, for the wonderful customer service. I look forward to continuing to praise your company, your customer service, and the brand.
Chisos 6 Roughouts! Let me start by saying I have several pair of cowboy boots, Lucchese, Hyer, AB’s, Olathe, etc,….. The crisis 6 Rough Out, is my third pair of Chisos. “I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE BOOTS! They have become my favorite and I wear them daily.
Right out of the box, these boots are AMAZING! The construction and attention to detail that goes into these boots is second to none. The fit and feel are absolutely spot on. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you, Chisos for providing such a great boot.
First boot I have owned that fits well. Love em!!
The most beautiful boots ever. Im so disappointed I cannot get them to fit. I have high insteps and wide feet, as these are only available in D width I cannot wear them - I cannot even get my feet into the opening of the shaft. However 1. Customer service is superlative. Better than Ive had with almost any other product. 2. The product is the clearly the best boot there is. So good!
Theses are by far the best boots I own hands down. I have boots from Lucchese , Rios of Mercedes, Tacovas , Wesco , etc... as much as I dig those other brands my Chisos No. 6 are my favorite. Right out of the box they feel incredible. No break in time. They look incredible and I get compliments every time I wear them. The construction is stellar , customer service is great and they shipped fast. Bonus was the hand written note , stickers and coozy. Those little details make for a great experience. I'll definitely be purchasing again.
Sometimes you know right away you made the right decision. That's what happened with my Chisos No.6. A little snug putting on the boots, but don't let that fool you. Had a perfect "snap" once my foot slipped in. First day I wore these I didn't want to take them off...super comfortable with no "break in" required. Kudos to the Chisos team. BTW great customer service...had to exchange sizes and had a return label the same day...new boots sent in a couple of days.
Next level build quality. Comfort is unmatched. I could t be happier.
Very comfortable after short break in period.
Had been in the market for some black ropers for around a year. After extensive research, aka YouTube University, Chisos kept popping up as a top rated boot. I had a trip planned to Austin , so I stopped by the store with high hopes. I was immediately greeted by two gentleman, and they were very welcoming. They offered me a beer and the experience began. I knew what I wanted so they snatched a pair of the No 6 in black. Although I knew what I was there for I couldn’t help but admire a few other pairs, especially the lizard skins. Before trying them on I tell the guys how hyped the boots were and I really hoped they didn’t let me down. I finally put them on and I have never been so immediately sold on a pair of boots. They were by far the most comfortable pair of boots I’d ever stepped in. On top of the that, the quality of the leather and soles were next level. I walked in wearing lucchese boots, and left with my new No 6’s on my feet. Overall it was a really cool and unique boot shopping experience compared to your usual retail shops. If you are on the fence I highly recommend you visit the store and see for yourself.
The build quality of these ropers is unmatched by any other maker. The quality of the leather, the rugged traditional construction, and the attention to fine details makes them as comfortable to wear right from the start. These boots are made to last forever. My only quibble probably has more to do with my anatomy than the design of the boots: getting my size 11 1/2 foot to "make the turn" both in- and out-of the boot is a struggle. I expect it to get easier the more I pull them on and off. They are still off-gassing some fumes from the tanning or polish, but fortunately it's a good aroma - sort of like that "new car smell" of a luxury car with leather upholstery.
