Form, Meet Function
Calf ropers of the early 20th century weren't too satisfied with the tall heels of cowboy-style boots. They wanted something they could run in. And so the roper was born.
With a shorter heel, shorter shaft, and subdued silhouette, the roper is the cowboy boot's quieter cousin. Still built Chisos tough, the flatter footing of the roper is arguably a harder worker.
Personally, we rotate between 'em both.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
The boots are awesome....the quality is top notch. They are a bit tight across the top for me to the extent I got a blister on my right big toe. I will take to my local cobbler and have him do a stretch. Every boot maker fits differently. I have them all and wanted a pair of Chisos...hopefully I can get the right foot to feel better. The left is fine. I have 3 pair of Tecovas and the EE width for me are like slippers. I could not get thier D width on in a size 9. I bought D width from yall based on reviews and they are a bit tight across the top. Too late now...Ive worn them and hope to get them to feel better
I got into cowboy boots from another brand (they're really good too!); it got me into the cycle of doing my research, and Chisos came up as one of the most comfortable boots out there . . so I took the leap and bought these . . . amazing! My initial thought was they're pricey, but they're worth it! My only complaint is the seemingly premature wrinkling in the toe box area, but I'm told that will happen, as , by design, there's no toe bug. I'm hoping it'll smooth out as I wear them. They're extremely comfortable, and the heel stack isn't as annoying as one would think (I come from sneakers almost exclusively hehe)
I initially ordered these boots in 10.5 and they didn't quite fit, i did the return process ans got a size 11 and can confidently say these are some damn comfortable boots. Chisos boots and their team are worth evrry penny! Great boots and great people!
I recently purchased a pair of Chisos # 6 roper boots, and I couldn’t be happier with them. They are extremely comfortable, stylish, and versatile—you can easily dress them up or dress them down.
The goat leather is outstanding. It has a beautiful look and feel, and the quality is immediately noticeable. One of my favorite things was opening the box and getting that incredible fresh leather smell. You can tell right away that these boots are made with quality materials.
If you’re looking for a pair of roper boots that combine comfort, style, quality, and versatility, I highly recommend these. They look great, feel great, and are quickly becoming one of my favorite pairs of boots!
Extremely comfortable boots once on but the stoke on the right boot is pretty tight.
Truly comfortable boots. Wore them for 30-45 minutes a day for the first week while working the dog, but probably could have gone all day right away. Highly recommend. I wear an EE in a custom Gokey boot, the Chisos store manager recommended upsizing by 1/2 size since these boots only come in D. Great recommendation, perfect fit.
I have bought two pairs of these boots, so obviously I like them, but one pair had issues right out the box.
One of my boots had loose stitches in the inside heel. I was advised to use a lighter to tighten the stich, but it didn't help.
In the end I pulled out about 8 inches of thread that came undone. I hope this does not affect the longevity of the boots.
I really like the boots. Hopefully this can be a data point if it happens to anyone else. They are too expensive for such quality oversights.
Daily western boot wearer for 25+ years and have worn all the big brands. I walk several miles a day on concrete which typically isn't good for a bad back. Plus, it tears apart lesser brands. Worked with the Chisos team (thanks Gannon) to find the exact fit and style because of my back pain. These are incredible! The craftsmanship is unmatched. I had major back surgery 6 days ago (multi level lumbar discectomy and foraminotomy) and am finally starting to walk short distances again.... and I'm wearing these! If the company is reading this please sell your insoles separately so I can buy a pair to put into a lesser brands boot (starts with an A and rhymes with chariot) so I can still wear those occasionally while I save up for another pair of Chisos.
I finally bought these sweet boots! I’ve been eyeing them for several months. With a planned Nashville trip, they were a must have! Being my first cowboy boot, I wanted something a bit more subtle and more useful for other occasions. These fit the profile and they didn’t let down. I broke them out on broadway during my trip and I was comfortable the entire time. The look, the feel, the smell… I’m completely satisfied.
Absolutely superb design, great looking when on, work well with jeans or a suit too, and although I was worried about the sizing, they fit great after a few hours of warm up for my feet and the boots to get ok! Wore them today for an all day hike and they’re absolutely superb once you work out what they SHOULD feel like! Chisos killed it.. well done!
