Form, Meet Function
Calf ropers of the early 20th century weren't too satisfied with the tall heels of cowboy-style boots. They wanted something they could run in. And so the roper was born.
With a shorter heel, shorter shaft, and subdued silhouette, the roper is the cowboy boot's quieter cousin. Still built Chisos tough, the flatter footing of the roper is arguably a harder worker.
Personally, we rotate between 'em both.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
Well, I've tried all sorts of boots and never had a pair fit my feet right out of the box so I ordered a second pair and don't ya know they fit even better than the first.
These boots are the perfect blend of traditional and modern cowboy boots. I ordered a 10 and 10.5. Most shoes/boots I have are a 10 and sometimes a 10.5. I realized that the 10 is a better fit. They were snug in the beginning
but are breaking in nicely. The leather stretches and molds to your feet nicely over time. They have a great look, feel, and smell, right out of the box. They are the most comfortable boots I own hands down. Looking forward to seeing how these look in the coming months/years. Thank you to the Chisos team for helping find the right fit. The customer service far exceeded my expectations. Could not be happier with this purchase.
I’ve had nothing but the best experience with chisos from start to finish. Customer service is top notch! Now the boots… the boots are quality you can feel…quality you can see. They are comfortable right out of the box but, you can tell with time that they will fit like a well worn, well worked glove. These will not be show boots they will be everyday boots!
I was apprehensive, as I would’ve been with any new pair of boots. Truly working in a pair of boots is hard, breaking them in is brutal! I could not be happier with my No. 6’s. They broke in quickly with literally no pain! No issues with them holding up this far either and I plan to continue putting them to the test out on the ranch. I’m a big fan of the handwritten note that accompanied my boots as well. Nice touch guys, keep up the good work! I’ll buy another pair…if I ever need them. Ha!
I love these boots, always wanted a pair ever since I moved to the United States. I got these as a present to myself for my birthday. My better half doesn’t like them and says I look dorky but they have definitely become a regular wear in my day to day life.
Blown away by the quality. I bought these for my husband and he’s obsessed. They’re almost immediately comfortable, incredibly stylish and will lash him forever. Thank you for creating the best boots!
These boots were comfortable right out of the box. After a few wears the grain in the leather and the wear patterns look awesome. Dressy enough for the office too!
They real purdy, get yah some!
Could not be happier. Look fantastic, and fit and feel even better. Opted for the No. 6 in brown. Exactly what I was looking for. I find them to fit true to size and really appreciated Chisos offering 12.5.
I wish I could write a good review because I like the whole company story, but I can't. Unfortunately, the stitching in both boots caused an aggravating abrasion on my calves. I first noticed it on my left boot when my boot sock went down. The inside stitching of the boot's right strap had a small knot that caused an abrasion. I burned it and filed it until it was acceptable. Now the right boot's stitching around the top rim of the shaft is causing an aggravation. Maybe some improvements in quality control might help. Other than that, I like the leather (roughout) and the comfort insole. However, I may not be keeping this pair for long.
I did give you a second chance by ordering a roughout No. 1, but the heels didn't have enough (or any) pop to it when I tried them. So I sent them back for lack of a good fit.
