Form, Meet Function
Calf ropers of the early 20th century weren't too satisfied with the tall heels of cowboy-style boots. They wanted something they could run in. And so the roper was born.
With a shorter heel, shorter shaft, and subdued silhouette, the roper is the cowboy boot's quieter cousin. Still built Chisos tough, the flatter footing of the roper is arguably a harder worker.
Personally, we rotate between 'em both.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
Comfortable from the first "thump," ruggedly handsome, superb craftsmanship. Nice folk at the Chisos HQ, too.
Excellent quality, fit, and the most comfortable boots ever!!!
I have all brands of boots but these boots are the most comfortable boot I have in my closet. I will purchase another pair soon!
Just the best boots. High quality, well made. Couldn’t ask for more.
Very nice boots
Thought I was going to have an issue breaking these boots in but they softened up rather quickly. Never wore them outside until they broke in. I like these boots a lot, they look great and easy to walk in. I will buy from them again!
First boot purchase ever--sold on the reviews and feedback on the comfort insert. Leather looks great! Stitching even throughout. Love the look of the wood pegs in the sole. Very comfortable with the low heel--perfect for walking (and honestly these boots will likely never see time in a saddle).
Usually wear 10-10.5D in Adidas, and 10D in dress shoes. I went with the 10D in the No.6 brushed brown, and I'm sure that was the correct choice. Initially both boots were snug across the instep, with the right being slightly tighter over the first metatarsal/ball of foot (but no pain). Minimal heel slip with both boots. After about 15 hours of wear (medium weight socks), the right boot is breaking in nicely--I'm sure I could wear these all day at this point.
Thanks, Chisos for a fantastic pair of boots essentially comfortable right out of the box. Looking forward to the full "fits like a glove" feeling after another couple weeks of wear. Definitely see another pair in my future--thinking No1 or No2 in Whiskey...
There can't possibly be a meaningfully competitive boot at this price point. These boots are incredibly well made, comfortable, and beautiful.
I wondered if they were worth the cost. I read the reviews. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of No. 6 Ropers. And yes, they ARE the most comfortable damned boots I've ever owned. Took about a week to break them in and now I really do want to sleep with them on, but my wife won't let me. I'm trying to find an excuse to buy another pair, maybe some 2's. These boots are the bees knees.
Loved the boots but had to return them. I ordered 12.5 sized but couldn’t get my foot down the narrow shaft into the boots as it was far too snug.
Had to work far too hard to get them on and off so had to return.
