An Undisputed Classic
Black full-quill ostrich—paired with our heritage magic black cowhide—is the pinnacle of classic cowboy boots. Tanned to perfection, you will only fully appreciate how stunning the No. 1 is when you unbox it for yourself.
Selectively-bred South African AAA grade ostrich feels plush without sacrificing durability. Natural variances in leather tone and texture give each pair a unique presence.
Expect your Chisos ostrich boots to feel slightly firm upon arrival. This is by design; the leather breaks in perfectly without becoming floppy (as lower grades are known to do).
The only downside is the time you’ll spend thanking people for their compliments.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
First I would like to start by saying this is my pair of feet with these boots, I gave it time before I wrote this review to be fair, and its my experience, if its contrary to yours its simply because these so called “ Damn Comfy Boots” were anything but comfortable.
I wanted to celebrate a long achieved milestone and reward myself with a pair of boots, a couple years ago I came across Chisos, mind you I was caught in the emotion, immediately sold on a story, concept and an artistic touch to the Sun and the moon stitching on the boot’s shaft. I fancied how cool I would look with a pair while wearing Jeans and a plane Ti-shirt or rocking my best outfit and enjoying a night with my lady/ friends and feeling good because Im looking good. So this is where I was sold “ myself to myself”
I pondered, hesitated, waited, tried to justify $595 and $945! “ before taxes” but didn’t have the courage. Then on a Random Saturday on a hot August afternoon I set forth to Austin from Houston to go pick up my boots, celebrating my resilience to put up with the dread of my tedious desk job, father time telling me to enjoy the fruits of my labor, and my palate craving KG BBQ .
I arrived at the Chisos house, like a kid on their first time going to Disney or Universal, me and my Girlfriend parked in the back we slowly walked up to the front door, me taking pictures of every sign and posing for a moment to be remembered!
We were greeted by two gentlemen, the store was cozy and inviting, it felt like a place where all that existed there staff and inventory were catering to you.
I started observing and browsing in person every boots I been looking at on the website, posts etc, saw the details in person like meeting a girl in person after coming across one another on a dating website.
I tried all boots all relevant sizes to my foot 9.5 and 10 then boldly chose the #1 leather then decided to over do myself and went for the ostrich.
Excited and delighted by the world class customer service, I pulled the trigger and bought my $1022 boots “$945+taxes” the staff were kind, generous, hospitable and even threw in A T-shirt, a hat, and merch.
The Boots:
I have wore the boots so far, out and about 3 times, and daily in my office to break them!
The damn boots only broke my foot, they tight from the top of my foot to the point where they restrain blood flow when sitting and less uncomfortable when standing. I wore them to a restaurant and I couldn’t enjoy my meal because my foot hurt same spot on top, then I went out another night to shoot pool and play corn hole and I had less of an uncomfortable experience because I stood all the time.
I wore them religiously every day at home for 30 min intervals hoping I would get to finally wear them and experience the “Damn Comfy Boots” but to know avail!
Today the 9th of October 2025, I woke up with a fire of enthusiasm and an appetite to enjoy flexing my very expensive “ relatively to me” boots so I put them on adjusted my socks made sure the flow of blood is good, still very snug and not better than when I wore them to the restaurant, and I set off to work. My commute is long and the Houston traffic is unforgiving, I was numbed by mg adrenaline but with time and bumper to bumper traffic, the boots grew uncomfortable and in a sitting posture in my boots I felt that the blood isn’t flowing to my feet, this was for a whole hour commuting east. By the time I pulled into the parking lot I pulled my body with caution to make sure my feet aren’t numb, adjust the sock and still felt a pinch on top of my foot but fought the discomfort and pain! I continued until lunch time but I decided to go to my truck take the boots off and rest my foot, I eased on my feet still not feeling at ease.
I decided to maybe walk longer and do my post lunch walk in the boots and did so for 1.2 miles of continuous discomfort.
I spent most of my day standing and twitching and adjusting my foot hoping for less pain and discomfort and better blood flow to my foot.
It was time to go home I drove out to face the perpetual never ending traffic, and as I braced for stop and go traffic the pain increased and I could not deal with it anymore. I decided to relief myself, so I pulled into a parking lot and with effort and perseverance I pealed off the boots, and my socks, my feet were sore and I had two pressure point marks on the top of my feet that compliment the red interior of my chisos boots. I finally set my tortured feet free and placed the boots in the passenger side, and decided to never wear them again!
I will not be buying another pair, In my experience they look good but feel horrible, I question how could I spend so much on something that doesn’t even feel good.
This is my experience it can be different than yours but for the $1022 I spent I wanted to thoroughly give my feedback and if I can return them I would, and will definitely sell them to make this experience a distant m...
I wanted a pair of high quality, good-looking boots to wear on more special occasions. For that purpose, these boots do that and more. For one, they're way overbuilt for what I'm using them for, but with that said, I don't think I'll ever need to replace them (at least the boot itself). The build is fantastic. Seriously. Second to none. The price is high, yes, but it's an investment. You'll have these boots (and be happy about it) longer than the few pairs you run though over time. I love the stitching on the shaft of the boot, too. I know no one really sees it under whatever you're covering them with, but it's so unique and pays wonderful homage to the Chisos Mountains. The leather quality is absolutely great. The ostrich leather is smooth and supple. It's also worth noting that I don't think I've ever seen or felt an ostrich leather hide as thick as the ones on my Chisos. Similarly, the shaft leather is full, beautifully textured, and soft. The red interior is a nice touch. It makes them feel even more premium . It will bleed onto your socks when you wear them which is a nuisance for some, but badge of honor for others. Fit and feel when wearing them is fantastic. They fit like a glove and the insert makes a huge difference in terms of comfort, especially when you're wearing them for longer periods of time. You may have seen other boot brands with inserts, but I haven't found one that fits or feels the way my Chisos do. The boot was designed around the insert, not just shoved in as an afterthought. On this topic, some have complaints about the boot being too tight around the instep. I personally don't have this issue, and found the boots to be true to my size and the same as in normal shoes. I haven't had to call on customer support, but I've heard great things about the folks at Chisos and they'll get you straightened out if you have any issues. If you're in the market for the best pair of boots money can buy or on the fence for what ones to get, I'd recommend Chisos. They're a fantastic pair of boots to invest in, and you'll be thanking yourself you made the right choice.
This was my second pair of Chisos Boots so I already knew what I was in for. Incredible comfort right out of the box that only gets better over time. I highly recommend Chisos to anyone looking for a hop quality cowboy boot. Don’t be fooled by the higher prices of some of the competitors out there these are as good as it gets!!
They Felt broke in right out of the box. I wear them all day at work with zero complaints. Definitely would buy again.
Extremely well made boots. Added the #1 Ostrich to the brown #2s. After a couple weeks of wear they break in perfect. Gonna be hard to go back to anything lesser made.
Bought No 1 in ostrich right before Christmas on a trip to Austin. Normally wear 10 EE, went with 10.5 D. Wore them for the first time in mid-February. They were a bit snug when I put them on, and perfect by the end of the night. Got lots of compliments- they look so good!
I purchased the No.1 Black Ostrich boots. They are of excellent quality and workmanship. The thickness of materials is very evident, compared to my other pair of ostriches from another well known brand. Unfortunately, I ordered a size to small, so I had to exchange them. Thanks to the Chisos team, I had my correct size in a very short period of time.
Working Retail for over 36 years, I know what the customer wants, and expects...especially when your paying this kind of money for a product.
Thanks to Team Chisos for the great customer experience.
P.S. I already ordered my #2 in Brown. Can't wait to get them too.
The look of this boot is great. The black ostrich is high quality, the shaft is beautiful, and you can tell visually that the boot is crafted with care.
The issue really comes with the sizing of the boot. If you look online or really on the Chisos' site it tells you to wear one size down. Maybe for most people with a more average foot this is true, knowing that I have a slightly wider foot, I went with my true to size 12s. I have all of my running shoes in 12 and a pair of Tacovas Ostrich in 12D. I thought I would be golden.
The first day I wore it more or less on carpet, the fit I could tell was correct, but after about 3 to 4 hours my feet were in some intense pain. When I woke up the next day they were sore. I took the inserts out and the fit was near perfect, but of course the marketing convinced me I should give it one more shot... In doing so I scuffed up the bottom so I have to live the purchase.... Long story short I reach out to support and they told me to try a different insert and not to go a size up. I opted for getting nicer inserts for my running shoes and the using the "old inserts" for my boots. I did this about a weeks ago. I tried to break in the boots with the chisos inserts for about 2 weeks... I used a baseball, I stuffed a shirt down in the boot and left it for about 2 days (I did this multiple times), I used Bickmore's bootspray... Nothing worked except changing the insert.
I wish the had a thinner version of this insert... Again love the look of the boot, but I'm not 100% convinced that the boot was crafted around the insert.
Great quality materials and look amazing, only down side the right boot fits too tight and left feels good, unfortunately I'm still breaking them in 2 weeks after I got them, hopefully I will be able to wear them ASAP,and after reading comments on the Chisos community Facebook page, seems like I'm not the only one this has happened too,I'm sure they will fit like a glove when I break then in,good day
I ordered the Black Ostrich full quill in an 11D. When I received them and tried the on they were too tight. My first thought was I hope this is not going to be a hassle to exchange and it wasn’t. It was very easy, Chisos has an automated return process, Print label, list size you would like to exchange for, mine 11.5 D, drop off at UPS, new boots, perfect fit show up in a few days. Awesome customer service. Really nice boots and a real step up from previous pairs of Ostrich I own. I highly recommend!!
