Chisos 6th Anniversary Party

Every year at our anniversary party, I try to step back, take a breath, and look around at what’s grown here at Chisos.

As I looked out over the Chisos backyard, watching folks mingle under the lights, boots dusty from the dancing and gravel, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Maybe it took me a little longer than some of y'all to truly grasp how special this community is.

This year, it settled deep in my chest: what we’re building here matters.

Throughout the night, several of you came up to tell me how much you appreciate these gatherings. Some of you met close friends at a Chisos anniversary party and reconnect here every year. Others told me stories of spotting fellow Chisos owners out in the wild in Terlingua, or even on the streets of Chicago. Catching that red stripe in the heel and knowing instantly you found a kindred spirit.

That’s the thing about Chisos people: we share a certain set of values. You’re builders, too. You’re caretakers and stewards of the beauty God’s placed around us. You’re thoughtful, hardworking, and a whole lot of fun to spend an evening with.

I’m also grateful for the incredible Chisos team. Dimitri, Gannon, Kris, Marli, and Juan pour themselves into this work every day, driven by a commitment to excellence and a desire to create a community where people feel welcomed. You’d be forgiven for thinking we’re a bigger operation than we are. But no, we’re still that homegrown boot company trying to make it on our own terms, holding tight to a vision for what we believe the world should look like.

As I wrap up this year’s note, I’m reminded of something simple but important: how you do something is just as important as what you do. Thank you for supporting a small team with big dreams. And thank you—for showing up, year after year, to make this community what it is.

Cheers to six years! And to many more.
