Austin Monthly Magazine Features Chisos

Austin Monthly magazine featured 11 "Austin makers you need to know" in this month's issue and included Founder & Chief Texan Will Roman on their list of local creatives. Word is spreading about damn comfortable cowboy boots!

Will Roman has always had a passion for cowboy boots, but wearing a pair proved agonizing after a back injury in his early 20s. That led the former startup founder to become an amateur boot sleuth, researching the art of the footwear’s construction in order to create something design-forward, yet comfortable. Launched last November, Chisos Boots are built around triple-density, non-collapsible polymer insoles that mold to the foot and absorb strike impact. The uppers—the part of the boot above the sole—were personally designed by Roman and boast Big Bend petroglyphs inspired by his love of West Texas. Handmade in a cobbler shop in León, Mexico (a city world-renowned for its leather artisans), the boots are crafted from durable, hand-selected cowhide that’s undergone a proprietary post-tanning process, yielding exquisite, supple leather. As an homage to Roman’s love of camping and hiking, a percentage of sales benefit conservation organizations, like Hill Country Conservancy, which helps protect wild spaces around the state. — Laurel Miller
