The Suit Boot
Lizard is arguably the most refined exotic in all of bootmaking. Where other exotics announce themselves, lizard simply arrives. The tight, uniform scales carry a natural luster that catches light without demanding it. At first glance, the texture can resemble a fine caiman. Up close, the detail is unmistakable. This is a leather that rewards the person who notices.
Chisos black lizard is paired with our heritage magic black cowhide shaft, creating a boot that moves seamlessly between a charcoal suit and raw denim. It's subtle in a way that ostrich and alligator are not—refined rather than bold, confident rather than loud. The leather is firm out of the box and will slightly soften and conform to your foot over time, much like a fine pair of dress shoes. Expect the first several wears to feel structured; that's the leather doing its job. Make sure to condition it often.
Every No. 7 Lizard is handcrafted using Goodyear construction, a leather channel welt, veg-tanned leather insole and outsole, and a stacked leather heel. Every component is designed to be rebuilt by a cobbler when the time comes. This is not a boot you replace. It's a boot you maintain. Built to be resoled, rebuilt, and worn for decades.
The only decision you'll struggle with is whether to wear them with a suit or with jeans. The answer, of course, is both.
Your Chisos boots will last decades with appropriate attention. The vamp (leather surrounding the foot) and leather shaft require only minimal care. Condition this leather about once every three months. Store in a cool, dry location and take a day off between heavy uses to allow the insides to properly dry.
The leather soles of your boots are designed to wear out and be replaced, much like the brakes on your pickup truck. Your mileage will vary depending on conditions of use, your weight, and your walking style. Avoid repeated exposure to water and excess moisture. When needed, a cobbler can perform a full resole and heel replacement.
To extend the life of new soles, have a cobbler apply a rubber sole saver upon receipt. No matter what, physics is going to win against leather soles and stitching. To slow the process, a cobbler can add some rubber to mitigate.
I am more than happy with all the models I own, and I honestly don't have a favorite—they are all incredibly comfortable, possess poise and elegance, and elevate my presence depending on the occasion. Quality, comfort, and elegance. Thank you!
If you think these boots look beautiful in the photos, wait until you see them in person — pictures don’t do them justice.
I walked into the Austin store looking for the No. 7 in Black, and the moment the vendor showed me this pair, my brain basically played a romantic soundtrack. It was love at first sight, no notes.
When I wear them to work, people don’t talk to me; they talk to my boots. Their eyes go straight to my feet.
And look, I own four pairs of Chisos, so trust me when I say: none of them are “slip on and ride into the sunset” comfortable on day one. You have to break them in, tame them, domesticate them like a stubborn mustang. But once they finally accept you as their rightful owner, they fit like a glove — a very stylish, very Texan glove.
Absolutely love these boots! I have had several pairs of boots in my life and these are the cat’s meow!
